A New Chapter

I won’t conclude by giving you a piece of advice. I will just end this message with a simple yet deeply sincere “thank you.”

At 18, I chose like you to come to study in Le Havre. Like you, I wanted to understand the world around me and dig deeper in the field of social sciences and humanities. Before going to pursue my study in political sciences, I remember telling my parents when moving out of the city that I would never come back to Le Havre. At that time, I was looking forward to embracing new horizons and discovering the world. But never say never. 20 years later, I landed for a second time in this city for what would be the best part of my professional life so far.

My Addiction to True Crime

“I came across an article called, “Why Do Women Love True Crime?” in the New York Times which talks about the link between women being the major victims in these crimes but also being the largest community entertained by them.”

On a train from Paris back to Le Havre. I had just come from a wonderful weekend with a friend and was ready to sit for a peaceful train ride and listen to some podcasts. Of course, not just any podcasts, but true crime podcasts. By the end of the train ride I had probably listened to the gruesome details of about four to five separate murders as the train pulled in at 10:30pm. As soon as the train stopped, I practically ran home, calling my dad to make sure that if something happened to me on this ten-minute walk, he could alert the authorities of my whereabouts. I was completely petrified until I made it up the stairs to my flat and locked the door behind me.

“Make Taiwan Great Again”

After Trump moved out of the White House and the MAGA slogan began to lose its media coverage in the US, a senior media personality in Taiwan, Jaw Shaw-kong, adapted the slogan into “Make Taiwan Great Again” to declare his return to Taiwanese politics by rejoining the Kuomintang (KMT), a possible move for the both the presidency of the party and of Taiwan.
